The use of “Malvinas Islands” on official maps of the Municipality is in contrast to the corresponding reaffirmation of Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands.

The controversy arose when it was discovered that several official maps used on the website of the Municipality of General Pueyrredón were naming the Malvinas Islands with the English name “Malvina Islands” . This provoked a reaction from the opposition , led by councilor Diego García of Unión por la Patria.

García initiated a file in the Deliberative Council with the objective of taking a firm position regarding this situation, seeking to express a “strong repudiation” of the use of said maps and proposing an ordinance that guarantees that digital maps in the Official sites of the Municipality reflect Argentine sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands .

From the political space they mentioned that platforms such as Google Maps use the appropriate name for the Malvinas Islands and requested that the official maps of the Municipality also be corrected , since they consider that these sites are the virtual representation of municipal management in all its areas.

Diego García requested that institutional digital spaces “visualize the national territory of the Malvinas Islands in the terms of the reaffirmation of our sovereignty.” He also expressed a “strong repudiation” for “the use of digital maps within the official websites of the Municipality of General Pueyrredon that visualize the national territory of the Malvinas Islands in the terms of the reaffirmation of our sovereignty.”
