The ARA "Almirante Irízar" activates the first profiling buoy in the Drake Passage.

As part of the Antarctic campaign , the icebreaker ARA "Almirante Irízar" carried out oceanographic tasks in the Drake Passage , with the launch of the first of three profiling buoys that descend to a depth of 2000 m and gradually begin to rise to the surface.

This artifact, which emerges after ten days, will remain in the ocean currents providing crucial information for meteorology and the study of climate .

The specialized team of the Argentine Navy on board the "Irízar " activated and established the satellite link of the oceanographic beacon , which will operate for five years .

The aim is to obtain vital data that will allow the development of more accurate weather forecasting models . In addition, the team will carry out seabed and bathymetry sampling tasks in bays such as López Bertodano and Esperanza.

The integrated ocean observation system has around 4,000 buoys spread across the planet's various seas.

Specifically, this project includes the installation of two additional buoys at strategic points in the Weddell Sea, a vast portion of the South Atlantic Ocean in Antarctica .
