The National Commission for Space Activities (CONAE) strongly questioned the arrival of representatives of the United States Space Force to Argentina . Following this meeting, the workers of the entity, organized in the Association of State Workers (ATE) , issued a statement in which they expressed their discontent and rejection.
The statement by CONAE staff highlights the delicate nature of the visit , especially in the context of a collaboration that, according to ATE members, could put national sovereignty at risk .
The document emphasizes that "the meeting aims to explore areas of mutual collaboration," which generated concern and rejection among workers .
The statement does not skimp on criticism of the current government , led by President Javier Milei , alluding to a position of " carnal relations " with the United States that, in its opinion, recalls the times of former President Carlos Menem , a period marked by the loss of autonomy in sovereign decision-making.
Workers recall that during that time, Science and Technology staff were forced to perform undignified jobs, such as washing dishes.
The members of ATE CONAE rejected any type of collaboration with a nation that has a history of interventions and war conflicts. In their letter, they state: "We oppose any approach that implies associating ourselves with the military forces of another country, remembering that our commitment is to the development and defense of Argentine sovereignty."
The statement also highlights CONAE's willingness to work alongside civil space agencies, such as those of Italy, Japan, Norway and NASA itself , promoting an approach that prioritizes collective development and mutual benefit without compromising national integrity.
The ATE CONAE statement
The statement said that "in light of the news of the visit of the US Space Force to CONAE (one of the six branches into which the US Armed Forces are divided) and the literal statements that say 'A meeting to explore areas of mutual collaboration', the workers of the organization affiliated in ATE want to express our repudiation and our unwavering commitment to work on the use of our capabilities for peaceful purposes and oriented towards the sustainable development of our country, as well as in the defense of national sovereignty."
He added that "we repudiate and denounce any approach that implies collaborating in any type of activity with the armed forces of a foreign country, a situation that is accentuated in the case of the United States given its history of promoting coups d'état and military invasions around the world."
" We understand that this event occurs within the framework of the renewed 'carnal relations' promoted by the government of Libertad Avanza led by President Javier Milei," they stated in the text, mentioning that " they have the same fate as those carried out by former President (Carlos) Menem, where the loss of sovereignty was evident to the point that the workers of the Science and Technology complex were sent to wash dishes."
"We express our rejection and refusal to collaborate with any type of armed forces of the United States through its body known as the US Space Force (USSF), as well as with any foreign military force, while we defend the collaboration that we do carry out with numerous civil agencies such as the Italian, Japanese and Norwegian Space Agencies, or NASA itself, among others," they concluded.
