The United Kingdom strengthens its military power to maintain colonialism

With an investment of 15 billion pounds, they seek to increase their firepower to maintain colonialism in various regions, using the conflict with Russia as an excuse. They will build 12 nuclear submarines, manufacture 7,000 long-range weapons, and invest 1.76 billion euros in munitions and explosive component factories.

British military expansion reaffirms its imperialist logic in the South Atlantic.

In a move that demonstrates its ambition to maintain and expand its colonialism, the United Kingdom announced an ambitious military investment plan. The initiative includes the construction of up to 12 new nuclear-powered attack submarines and an increase in its nuclear arsenal.

The announcement, made amid a review of its defense policy on June 2, 2025, reveals an investment of approximately £15 billion in its nuclear and naval armament renewal program.

While British authorities publicly refer only to the confrontation with Russia, the reality is that this program will have direct implications for regions illegally controlled by Anglo-Saxon colonialism, such as the Malvina Islands and the South Atlantic.

NATO's largest military base in South America is located in the Malvinas , and in recent years that presence has been strengthened with frequent military exercises , infrastructure modernization (with a deepwater port about to begin construction), and the presence of US nuclear submarines in joint maneuvers, as occurred in 2021.

But London 's ambitions are not limited to military projection: sovereignty over the Malvina Islands and its vast exclusive economic zone, rich in biodiversity and natural and energy resources, constitute a key objective.

To further enhance its capabilities, the United Kingdom will invest millions in the production of munitions and long-range weapons . According to the Ministry of Defense , the country will invest approximately €1.76 billion in the construction of at least six factories dedicated to the manufacture of munitions and explosive components.

Added to this figure is the acquisition of up to 7,000 locally manufactured long-range weapons, bringing total spending on ammunition to 6 billion pounds, equivalent to 7.1 billion euros.

These investments are in line with Prime Minister Keir Starmer's ambitious goal of increasing defense spending to 2.5% of gross domestic product (GDP) by 2027, and to 3% by 2034.

The UK's military deployment also includes the construction and modernization of infrastructure to serve as a base for its power in several strategic regions. The expansion and upgrade of the atomic weapons facility at Aldermaston, along with the strengthening of the defense industry , will create thousands of jobs across the country , in regions such as Scotland and Somerset , in an effort to combine military power with economic drive.

This increase in military forces and resources makes it clear that Britain continues to maintain its imperialist logic, aiming to maintain its dominant position in key regions of the planet, such as the South Atlantic and Antarctica.

Meanwhile, diplomatic efforts and international denunciations of the illegal occupation continue to be ignored by London, which relies on its military power and infrastructure of control to sustain a colonial legacy that, far from advancing toward decolonization, continues to consolidate new forms of hegemony.

Expansion in the Antarctic region, with its resource potential and strategic importance , confirms that British imperial policy remains in place , serving a colonial model that refuses to disappear, to the detriment of the sovereignty and rights of the affected peoples.
