It happened a few days after the electoral victory of the opposition that promotes the departure of the United Kingdom and the reunification of Ireland.

Unknown persons removed and burned a recently installed Malvinas War memorial in the town of Stewartstown, in the so-called Mid Ulster of Northern Ireland. That neighborhood is clearly identified with the ruling Democratic Unionist Party (DUP), in favor of continuing to belong to Great Britain and not reunifying with the Republic of Ireland. The act of vandalism involved a type of monument consisting of a boat equal to the one from the landing of the imperial forces in San Carlos, Malvinas, in 1982, handmade and made to scale. It was erected last April in the so-called “War Memorial” for the 40th anniversary of the conflict. The boat was removed from the scene and burned completely. The authors have not yet been identified.

Media speculation inscribes the desecration in the rarefied and effervescent political climate that exists in Northern Ireland, the sector of the island of Ireland that makes up the United Kingdom. There, a few days ago, Sinn Féin , the left-wing party historically linked to the IRA, triumphed in the elections, which promotes the recovery of Northern Ireland in a reunified Ireland, outside the United Kingdom. Now, in accordance with the electoral legislation of that country, Sinn Féin must apply to form a government, for which it is essential to ally with the until now ruling DUP, ideologically at its antipodes. The Democratic Unionist Party strongly supports the integration of Northern Ireland into Great Britain, and rejects any initiative to approach its Catholic neighbors to the South for eventual reunification. In addition, he opposes the legalization of abortion and equal marriage and is Eurosceptic.
