The Venezuelan president, Nicolás Maduro , attacked the Argentine president, Javier Milei , accusing him of recognizing British sovereignty over the Malvinas Islands as one of his first actions in power.
During the commemorative event of the 213th anniversary of the Venezuelan Declaration of Independence and the "Day of the Bolivarian National Armed Forces" , Maduro criticized Milei for his stance on the Malvinas Islands and for the elimination of the Telesur television channel .
The Venezuelan official described the Argentine president as a "tremendous sellout" and a "bastard." In addition, he warned about the alleged interest of the leader of La Libertad Avanza in handing over part of the South Atlantic territory to establish a military base for the North American Southern Command .
"We Latin Americans are sad about what is happening in Argentina. In Venezuela they intend to apply the same method. Milei arrived and the first thing he did was recognize the sovereignty of the British Empire over the Malvinas," said Maduro.
He added that "this is how they intend to come and recognize the colonial dispossession of the British Empire and Exxon Móbil over our Guayana Esequiba. Well, we are not going to allow it, Guayana Esequiba is Venezuelan, we tell it to the British Empire, we tell it to the Exxon Mobil".
"Milei arrived handing over Argentina's South Atlantic territory for a Southern Command military base. Is that what we want for Venezuela? To turn our country into a gringo military base?" contrasted President Maduro. "I say it with my baton: Venezuela will never be the base of any empire!" , he concluded.
