The opening ceremonies took place on Wednesday morning, March 25.

Former combatants from the city of Rio Grande, Governor Gustavo Melella, Mayor Martín Pérez and authorities of the provincial and municipal Executive, along with legislators, councilors, war veterans and family members, participated on Wednesday morning, March 25, in the inauguration ceremony of the Rio Grande Dignity Tent.

During the event, Melella stated that the gathering represents "exciting moments of reunion between veterans and their families" and noted that "this date has a very deep historical and emotional significance for all the people of Tierra del Fuego."

In another part of his speech, the governor questioned the statements made by the Argentine ambassador to the United States regarding the principle of self-determination for the population occupying the Malvina Islands. “The indigenous people there were Argentine, and they were expelled from their territory,” he stated.

Mayor Martín Pérez, for his part, described the Tent as “a beacon of awareness for the Malvinas War for more than 30 years” and emphasized that it will continue to be so in the future. Pérez attended the opening of the space along with the “Malvinas Argentinas” Veterans Center, which kicked off a week of commemorative activities leading up to the April 2nd Vigil.

The official also referred to the progress of the construction of the Permanent Building of the Tent of Dignity, a project being carried out with the municipality's own resources, and pointed to "continuing to strengthen that common vision that we have in Río Grande and that we want to transmit to the whole country."

The president of the Río Grande Veterans Center, Alberto Ante, expressed his appreciation for the community's continued support and highlighted the efforts aimed at strengthening the center for the future. Ante thanked those present, saying, "We want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being here and joining us in this tribute."

The tent is currently located on the boulevard of Avenida Héroes de Malvinas. The vigil on Wednesday, the official ceremony on Thursday, and the subsequent civic-military parade will take place there.

In Ushuaia

As part of the 44th anniversary of the start of the temporary recovery of the Malvina Islands, the Ushuaia Ex-Combatants Center inaugurated its tent in the Plaza Islas Malvinas in the capital of Tierra del Fuego.

The activity was led by the president of the entity, Juan Parodi, and was attended by the deputy mayor Gabriela Muñiz Siccardi, municipal officials, councilors, representatives of the public and private sector, relatives of veterans and neighbors.

During the opening, Parodi thanked the Municipality for setting up the tent and for the improvements made to the plaza, including the replacement of the Argentine provincial emblems. He also acknowledged the support of those participating in the booths and the collaborators who make the event possible each year.

The municipal secretary of Malvinas, Dante Asili, stated that “as with every event leading up to April 2nd, we collaborated with the Malvinas Veterans Center in Ushuaia on the development and organization of all the activities.” This year, the opening of the stands was moved up a week to broaden the participation of the educational community.

The inauguration took place in a particular context for the Ex-Combatants Center, following the death of war veteran Daniel Ramírez .

With the opening of the tent, Ushuaia kicked off a week of commemorative activities in the Plaza Islas Malvinas, aimed at preserving the memory of the Malvinas and bringing the cause closer to new generations.
