Malvinas Museum: Layoffs, persecution and the advance of de-Malvinization

The Vilgré Lamadrid administration is dismantling the museum's educational department, leaving it without professionals. This is a plan to trivialize its content and erase its historical memory.

The complaint points directly to Vilgré Lamadrid and the general coordinator Jimena Ferreira.

What began as an apparent harmonious transition at the Malvinas and South Atlantic Islands Museum has devolved into a scenario of institutional depletion and political persecution.

The administration headed by retired Colonel Esteban Vilgré Lamadrid , under the political influence of Vice President Victoria Villarruel , is currently facing serious accusations for dismantling the museum's technical and educational areas, leaving the institution with only one guide out of the 20 who made up the original staff.

The Museum under the wing of the "New Right"

The distribution of power within the national executive branch left the Malvinas Museum under the direct influence of Villarruel , a figure whose career is marked by activism in CELTYV (Center for Legal Studies on Terrorism and its Victims). The vice president has been repeatedly denounced by Argentina's main human rights organizations for her ties to sectors that defend state terrorism and for her participation in advocacy efforts to defend those convicted of crimes against humanity.

This ideological imprint found its executor in Vilgré Lamadrid . Although the former Army officer is a war veteran, his figure is not without heavy controversy: he is accused of having been the architect of the construction of the figure of Oscar Poltronieri (the hero of Two Sisters) in a narrative with the greatest number of historical inconsistencies detected in the events that occurred during the war, which for many sectors of the ex-combatants, constitutes a manipulation that offends the true heroes, both the living and the dead.

Blacklists and educational depletion

The initial harmony shattered with the arrival of the " blacklists ." According to complaints from workers affiliated with ATE , management has begun a systematic purge. After months of demands for the reinstatement of a union delegate who was illegally dismissed, the administration added six more dismissals of union members .

"This is a clear case of political and union persecution. They are dismantling the Education Area, a key component for the training of schools that visit the site," the union stated.

The displaced workers have, on average, 11 years of experience and specific training in the Malvinas Cause and sovereignty in the South Atlantic and Antarctica . The complaint directly targets Vilgré Lamadrid and the general coordinator , Jimena Ferreira , whom they accuse of drawing up the dismissal lists in collusion with the UPCN delegation and with the approval of the Cultural Heritage authorities, Paula Zingoni and Liliana Barela .

The risk of trivialization

The process being denounced is not only labor-related, but also conceptual. The former employees warn of an attempt to "de-Malvinize" and trivialize the museum's content. By emptying the museum of its most qualified professionals, there is a risk of turning a space of memory and sovereignty into an empty shell or, worse still, into a stage for rewriting history according to the parameters of the Argentine far right.

The Malvinas Cause, which has historically united Argentinians, faces today the challenge of resisting a management that seems to prioritize ideological discipline and budget cuts over safeguarding our historical heritage and the inalienable claim of sovereignty.
