The Hind Rajab Foundation has submitted applications to judicial authorities in Argentina and Chile to order the arrest of Saar Hirshoren , an Israeli soldier accused of war crimes committed in Gaza .
Hirshoren , a member of the Israel Defense Forces ' 749th Combat Engineering Battalion , is alleged to be currently in the Patagonian region , although his presence has not been officially confirmed.
The complaint was submitted to prosecutor Carlos Rívolo and federal judge Daniel Rafecas , who are currently evaluating the case. The organization , named after a Muslim girl who died during the recent Israeli offensive in Gaza , maintains that these events are part of the crimes that motivate the accusation against Hirshoren .
The Hind Rajab Foundation noted that Argentina must investigate and prosecute those facing such serious accusations. In this context, the complaint included evidence documenting Hirshoren's alleged involvement in the destruction of civilian infrastructure in Gaza , including videos , where he is seen engaged in acts of demolition .
In addition to legal actions in Argentina and Chile , the organization also filed a brief with the International Criminal Court , seeking to prosecute the entire 749th Combat Engineering Battalion and its senior commanders for war crimes and genocide.
After having passed through our country, Hirshoren was located in Chile , which led to the filing of a criminal complaint in Santiago and Aysén . An arrest warrant and travel restrictions were requested to prevent his escape , based on the geolocation information that confirmed his presence in the Chile Chico region.
In turn, the media in the region highlight that through Law 20,357 , Chilean legislation allows for the prosecution of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Chilean and Argentine authorities must now assess how to proceed with regard to Hirshoren's request for detention and compliance with international standards.
