Squatters in the Malvinas could cancel the second season of squid fishing

This is due to the low number of squid counted by British scientists on board the Spanish ship Robin M. Lee. Tomorrow, Saturday, it will be decided whether or not to carry out the winter campaign in Malvinas waters.

The Spanish fishing vessel Robin M. Lee , part of a joint Spanish-British company operating in the waters surrounding the Malvina Islands under license from the usurper, completed its exploratory voyage on Wednesday alongside scientists from the English colony to verify the quantity and quality of the squid there and decide whether or not to authorize the opening of the winter fishing season for the species.

Obviously, the 20-day delay in the start of the winter squid season casts doubt on whether the Spanish, Korean and Taiwanese fleets can be authorized to fish for the precious resource, specifically due to the low number and size of migratory squid arriving on the islands.

This is not a new development, as the second season of 2023 was also forced to be interrupted due to the very low initial catches recorded. This situation meant that, of the 45,000 tonnes that the Spanish fleet declared in the 2022 winter season, in the same period of 2023 the catch was reduced to less than 15,000 tonnes.
