The audience at the Ushuaia Naval Base, the transfer of sovereignty, and the US strategy to dominate the region

The mystery surrounding the construction of the Integrated Naval Base is compounded by the lack of official explanations from the Argentine government. Now, the completion of the platform has been announced in the middle of the winter season, a time when such work is not recommended.

The Presidency has not provided clear answers regarding the agreements reached and the expansion of foreign military presence on Argentine soil, amid a geopolitical struggle with China.

The official announcement by the Argentine Ministry of Defense regarding the completion of the platform for the future integrated naval base in Ushuaia is fueling controversy and speculation about the true objectives of this construction.

The structure, which is already in operation, is designed to house the Joint Antarctic Command (COCOANTAR) , and is justified as a reinforcement for the Argentine position in the region , consolidating Ushuaia as the gateway to the white continent .

However, what appears to be a step forward in national sovereignty and logistics actually raises questions about U.S. interests and the true motivations at play.

The work, carried out by the firm Tandanor , which specializes in naval engineering , is notable for having been completed in the middle of the southern winter , during the month of July.

What is striking about this is that the construction sector advises against carrying out work with cement during this season due to the extreme weather conditions that make building and strengthening of structures considerably more difficult.

The speed with which the platform was completed, amidst very low temperatures , draws attention and raises suspicions regarding what political and logistical agreements may have been sealed in secret and whether the work was carried out with a plan that transcends the strictly technical or economic .

So far, Argentine authorities have not provided clear details about the commitments reached with Washington during meetings already held with Embassy officials and foreign military commanders .

The only thing that is known—from official statements—is that there is an agreement to enhance the capabilities of the naval base , without specifying exactly what it consists of.

The relationship with the United States is presented as a submission to North American imperial interests , to the detriment of the country's political autonomy and sovereignty.

At the end of last April, the head of the United States Southern Command , Admiral Alvin Holsey , visited the construction area and again expressed clear interest in expanding the American presence in the region to gain ground in the dispute with China for geostrategic control .

What the US military forces are pursuing is evident: to establish an advanced base of operations , possibly for their nuclear submarines , according to press reports neither denied nor confirmed by the Argentine Government .

This is at a time in history when the exploitation of natural resources , minerals and rare earths in the South Atlantic and Antarctica has become a stage of global geostrategic competition , driven by the power struggle between the US, China and Russia .

On the other hand, to this scenario we must add the usurpation of the Malvinas Islands and adjacent maritime and island territories by British colonialism , supported by the United States as its main political-military ally .

It is worth noting that these Anglo-Saxon imperialists periodically carry out joint military exercises at NATO's largest military base in South America , located in Monte Agradable , where even US nuclear submarines have participated in 2021.

The statements of the US authorities in recent years clearly demonstrate their interest in the region , framed within a strategy to combat China , which places the southern region at the center of a dispute over areas of influence .

Washington's official narrative speaks of "combating the threat from China in the far south," a goal explicitly stated by various officials and senior military commanders, making the Argentine government's lack of transparency regarding the scope of its agreement with the world power even more disturbing.

What is clear, beyond official statements, is that Argentina is at a crossroads that requires greater transparency and accountability .

Citizens are demanding concrete answers about the terms of the agreement with Washington , especially given the evidence that this investment in military infrastructure may serve much broader and more dangerous objectives for national security and regional stability .
