The National University of Lanús (UNLa) approved through Rectoral Resolution No. 458/2025 the rules of the first Academic Essay Contest “Malvinas… because this has another key. Sovereignty, identity and territory” .
The initiative has the support of the National University of Tierra del Fuego, Antarctica and the South Atlantic Islands (UNTDF), the Municipality of the city of Río Grande and the Confederation of Malvinas Combatants of the Argentine Republic.
The competition is open to students, faculty, graduates, and non-teaching staff from all national universities in the country . Its objective is to promote critical thinking, historical, political, and cultural knowledge, and civic engagement regarding the Malvinas Cause as a cornerstone of Argentine sovereignty.
Essays may be submitted in four categories: Students, Faculty, Graduates, and Non-Teaching Staff. Each participant must provide proof of their affiliation with a national university and the corresponding background information.
The themes are organized into three main axes: “Malvinas in history and national thought” , “Malvinas, geopolitics and strategic resources” and “Malvinas, a national-Ibero-American cause” .
Those interested should submit an abstract of 700 to 1000 words between November 17 and 26, 2025, indicating the thematic focus and the minimum bibliography used. Full essays, between 4000 and 6000 words, will be accepted from December 9 to 19. Submissions should be sent by email to [email protected]and [email protected] .
The jury, made up of specialists in history, social sciences, law and education, will evaluate the works under the double-blind modality according to criteria of thematic relevance, originality, academic rigor, structural coherence, writing quality and impact.
The results will be announced on March 1, 2026 through the official websites of the universities and the Municipality of Rio Grande.
Each category will have a first prize consisting of a trip and stay in Río Grande to participate in the traditional Vigil for the Malvinas War on April 2, 2026. In addition, the winning essays and those that receive honorable mentions may be published in digital and print format by the organizing institutions.
