The mayor of Río Grande, Martín Pérez , spoke firmly regarding Argentina's position on the Malvinas Question and questioned the recent statements of the president of the nation, who led an event in Plaza San Martín on the Day of the Malvinas Veterans and Fallen; with a speech that lasted barely 10 minutes, in which he opened the door for the inhabitants of the islands to decide on the sovereignty of the usurped territory, contradicting Argentina's historical claim.
"The president's speech undermines Argentina's historic position vis-à-vis the international community on the Malvinas Question. Either he's not qualified for his role or he's responding to interests other than those of our Republic," Pérez stated from the city of Río Grande, Tierra del Fuego.
The mayor also warned about the consequences of the Mondino-Laimmy agreement . "The progress of the Mondino-Laimmy agreement deepens the surrender of national sovereignty. Nothing great is built on our knees. We must rise up," he said. He added : "Territorial integrity must be defended in its entirety, not piecemeal. The Malvinas Islands are part of our country and our province."
Finally, he sent a resounding message about the continued sovereignty claim: "Despite the president in power, despite the libertarians, despite any circumstances, the Malvinas were, are, and will be Argentine."
