In a note distributed this Sunday afternoon, the Multisectorial Human Rights of Río Grande expressed its rejection of the visit that the head of the United States Southern Command, Laura Richardson, will make to our country, and specifically to Tierra del Fuego in particular. They also reject “any type of interference by the United States of America in the exploitation of our natural resources, in security and in relations with the rest of the world,” and they also ask the governor of Tierra del Fuego to declare “persona non grata”.

The text of the note
From The Multisectorial Human Rights of Río Grande repudiate the visit of the head of the United States Southern Command, Laura Richardson, to our country and Tierra del Fuego in particular, while we reject any type of interference by the United States of America in the exploitation of our natural resources, in security and in relations with the rest of the world.
The head of the US Southern Command affirmed, at the beginning of 2023, her interest in the natural resources not only of Argentina but of Latin America, emphasizing lithium, oil and also fresh water resources. This visit should alert us now which is being carried out at a time when the Milei government wants to approve in Congress a new omnibus bill that will deepen the deregulation of controls for the extraction of our resources in favor of multinationals.
We cannot allow central countries or multinational companies to come and plunder our resources, destroying our habitat, contaminating our environment, displacing people from their lands, with the false promise of jobs and money. There are plenty of examples around the world of countries rich in natural resources whose inhabitants are in a situation of extreme poverty and institutional weakness due to the plundering of their wealth and interference in their political decisions.
Likewise, we reject any possibility that the national government binds the destinies of the country and our province to an Antarctic logistics pole project jointly with the United States of America. According to what was revealed, Richardson would meet with the head of the Austral Naval Base based in Ushuaia, to analyze the Navy's Antarctic Logistics Pole project, and of that way to propose a joint development that grants them monopoly control of the strategic, scientific and military relationship between the southernmost point of the South American continent and Antarctica. We consider that it would be totally negative to be trapped for the rest of history by imperial and military policy of the US and NATO.
President Javier Milei has shown ample evidence of carrying out a policy of aggression towards the rest of Latin America, aligning himself unconditionally with the United States, an example of which is the signing of a memorandum by the Minister of Defense of the Milei government, Luis Petri. , with the US ambassador in Buenos Aires, Marc Stanley, to deepen North American control in terms of cybersecurity over our country.
Laura Richardson's presence in the country, for the next few days, has in the pipeline - in addition to closing the agreement for the sale of the old F-16 interceptor fighters -; a visit to Neuquén and another to Ushuaia, although the final agenda has not yet been officially confirmed.
In any case, these are two sensitive points. In Neuquén, Argentina and China installed a space observation station under the tutelage of China and the National Commission for Space Activities (CONAE), a station that the United States always observed with distrust.
From the Multisectorial we support the decision of Governor Gustavo Melella not to receive the North American official at the same time that we request that declare her “persona non grata” and take all necessary steps to protect our natural resources and our sovereignty.
